The park was full of baby geese, ducks, and other animals. We also saw a Swan family: mom and dad with an egg they were protecting. Lafayette has summer events to include movies in the park, open houses, and vintage baseball played as it was in the 1860s.
We enjoyed the duck pond, fishing, and walking across the old iron bridge. They also have three cannons that Christian loves to play on. He enjoyed the children’s play area with large stone frog and turtle statues. He also played on the outdoor stage. While playing, enjoying a picnic, or fishing in the pond, you can admire the Gateway Arch in the background.
This park is full of history and charm. With the Victorian Townhouses, gardens, and iron and stone gates at its entrances, it like stepping back in time to a quaint, quiet, and refined time where people lived in a slower pace of life while admiring the Gateway Arch in the background. Preparing for your visit: Parking is free street parking. The grounds have a paved walking path has accessible bathrooms and eating areas.
You may choose to bring bread to feed the ducks. The kiddo’s may want to ride their bike- I did not see any Lime Scooters or bikes in the area. You can take a stroll over a picturesque bridge and enjoy the families of ducks and geese or head over to the pond and fish or admire the swan family. You can also bring a fishing pole or make your own.
The park also has a self-guided tour that takes you past Park House, Circular Horse trough, Elizabeth Cook Pavilion, the Bronze casting of a statue of George Washington, and the Victorian townhouses. ( we did not do this tour as he just enjoyed the walk) You may choose to visit the cafes across the street and around the block which you may enjoy a snack or coffee. If you choose to stay for evening events you can enjoy dinner and wine. We took a walk and saw the café, fountain, and Townhouse the area is famous for: https://youtu.be/lPEV9YK73uA
This is a family-friendly area for all to enjoy in one of the oldest parks west of the Mississippi where you may enjoy family-friendly events listed on their website or enjoy quiet, self-reflection time to yourself while enjoying to landscape and view of the Gateway arch. Christian and I love going to parks for his O.T. and exploring. We use the new area and equipment for his exercises while walking and getting our steps in. We love nature and the wildlife that are a part of the area. New adventures await in your backyard!
Go out and explore!
