From Saint Clair towards Devil’s Elbow. old Route 66 corridor. We began in Saint Clair and stopped at Bourbon MO. We continued on stopping at Country Cousins Antiques: 4850 Old Highway 66, Bourbon, MO 65441 and we bought a chair that I painted to be a checkerboard. It was a great bargain t $10.00 and good project for me to do.
On to Missouri Hick BarB Que: https://missourihick.com but we did not stop. We had a deadline and I was not hungry but boy are they busy so they must be good! I love ribs so have a few for me! hahaha
We stopped in Cuba Mo where we enjoyed murals portraying: The Osage Mural Meeting in Missouri portrays the Osage meeting French settlers led by Auguste Chouteau and Jean Pierre Chouteau. The mural’s artist, Norman Akers, stated, “The underlying principles that inform my art include tribal oral histories, maps, art historical references, and nature.” We also enjoyed the: 1930s Phillips 66 Station on Route 66 fuels Cuba, MO’s history, Memories from WW11, and the blue – the blue bonnet-the train that transported our boys, Amelia Earhart’s forced landing, and many more amazing works of art. https://cubamomurals.com/
I don’t know about you but I love art and looking at these art pieces makes you want to look up the history and stories behind the pictures and people. My nana always adds history and research to my day after a trip like this one.
Delicious times in Fanning Mo and the world’s largest Route 66 rocking chair: Assembled out of steel pipe, the chair weighed 27,500 pounds. The outpost is up and running with amazing and hospitable personnel who will come out and greet you, take pictures, and give you the attention you deserve after a long drive. They have fudge, popcorn, and drinks plus Historic 66 souvenirs- we bought a fridge magnet! The staff was wonderful and attentive to me as I tried different fudge samples. I did buy some fudge! You should be sure to go there and tell them Christian sent you. haha
On The totem trading post, “not good or worth the visit., but a roadside stop along the way.
Devils Elbow- named for the repeated logjams. It’s a Railroad the army used during the WW2 build-out of wood-named The Trestle. Big Piney River, Elbow Inn, old Hwy66- and Hooker Cut bluffs. rounds out our trip! This is where I had a little O.T. and balance, with running and jumping. Sitting in the car all that time was hard work but getting out and exploring is easy and fun.
As Christian: a great trip and worth the drive! A two thumbs up!
He loved it!! You must go for a drive down route 66 and explore what all the little roadside attractions have to offer.
